Woolmark has opened applications in the search for the next talent to follow in the footsteps of Saul Nash for its 2023 International Woolmark Prize (IWP). The International Woolmark Prize is the world's most prestigious award for rising fashion stars showcasing the beauty and versatility of Australian Merino wool.

To be eligible to apply, designers must have produced commercially available apparel for a minimum of 2 years and a maximum of 8 years at the time of applying.

In addition, the rules state that the designer should have “consistent experience” in working with and promoting best practices across apparel supply chains, show a yearly growth in sales, and demonstrate the innovative use of fabrics and textiles in design.

Emerging designers can apply for the International Woolmark Prize 2023

The selected finalists will participate in The Woolmark Company’s Innovation Academy, an education and mentoring programme that offers access to International Woolmark Prize partners and advisors.

The finalists will also be provided with support and assistance in developing their collections and brands, such as commercial development, product ideation and supply chain connections.

Each finalist will receive 60,000 Australian dollars (around 41,000 US dollars) to develop Merino wool looks as part of their Fall 2023 collection or a standalone IWP 2023 capsule collection. The overall winner will be awarded 200,000 Australian dollars (around 138,000 US dollars).

In addition, the Karl Lagerfeld Award for Innovation winner will receive a prize fund of 100,000 Australian dollars (around 69,000 US dollars).

This year, British menswear designer Saul Nash was announced as the winner of the 2022 International Woolmark Prize, and South African label Mmusomaxwell, from design duo Maxwell Boko and Mmuso Potsane, won the Karl Lagerfeld Award for Innovation.

Applications for the 2023 International Woolmark Prize close on August 19, 2022.
