Having your work featured in the window display on one of London’s most popular shopping streets is something that many upcoming designers can only dream of. For London College of Fashion (LCF) alumna Ana Rajcevic this scenario became reality, as she was approached by luxury department store Selfridges to design a headpiece for their Christmas display.

Named,‘Taurus’, the Headpiece that Rajcevic designed for the retailer’s window display on Oxford Street is handmade from polyurethane and leather. The white accessory’s futuristic look fits well with the theme of Selfridges Christmas displays: Journey to the stars.

”The Selfridges team contacted me directly saying that they are “huge fans of my work” and asked me to create a piece for one of their Christmas windows,” said Rajcevic in an interview with LCF. “I was asked to create the Taurus window, which had to depict the idea of the saying ‘Like a Bull In a China Shop’.” The designer’s work has been placed on a mannequin who is surrounded by white porcelain, and Rajcevic said she was inspired by the idea of a white, snowy Christmas for her horns as well.

She describes the collaboration with Selfridges as “very easy and rewarding”. According to Rajcevic, she had complete freedom in designing something that she felt would fit with the theme. “It took me a long time to make them though. Since the headpiece is very large and completely handmade, I had to make sure that they are light weight but as well very durable,” added Rajcevic. However, all the time she put into it has been worth it: “I think the outcome of this collaboration is really amazing.”

Rajcevic graduated from the MA Fashion Artefact at LCF in 2012, and in the same year she also won the LCF Best Design Award and a prize for the Accessories Collection of the Year of the International Talent Support (ITS). Her work has already been featured in titles including British Dazed and Confused magazine and Italian publication Zoom on Fashion Trends.
