Justin Chu´s resume is impressive, to say the least, and it includes prestigious prizes such as the Council of Fashion Designers of America´s (CFDA) Geoffrey Beene Award as well as numerous online features on the website of the Italian Vogue and Women´s Wear Daily (WWD). Chu, who graduated with a BA in Fashion Design from Parsons School of Design in 2014, has recently announced the next step in his career: the launch of his first ready-to-wear collection via the fashion platform Icon com February.

Icon, which is set to be unveiled simultaneously with Chu´s collection, is an online store which aims to offer upcoming designers a platform to sell their work. Customers will be able to pre-order the items before they hit stores for a period up to three weeks. A unique concept the store will offer revolves around its pricing strategy: the price of each item will be depended on the total number of orders placed by all customers. Therefore, they will only be charged once the designer knows how many items he has sold, which allows him or her to split costs between consumers. Icon has yet to announce further details on practical matters such as shipping, delivery and returns. Furthermore, it has yet to announce which other designers will sell their work on the platform besides Chu.

”Chu explores the notion that an evolutionary perfection is unattainable because standards of perfection are always in flux,” said a spokesperson of Icon. “He designs for a woman who is always changing, one who is never settled on one way of living.”

Chu´s debut ready-to-wear collection ´Ventifact´consists of ten looks, including dresses, coats and matching trousers and tops. Colours vary from stark white to black and red. The New York City based designer has not made any statements on retail prices of his collection.
