Natalia Lilian, a young German student of Polimoda’s Master in Bag Design, won the Think Bag competition supported by the magazine Leather & Luxury in collaboration with the Florentine leather goods Loipell.

The Think Bag attendees took part in a series of workshops aimed at designing a bag with the following criteria: feasibility, functionality, innovative design and sustainability.

20 of the winner’s soft cream coloured nappa-leather Made in Italy bags were put up for sale online, in stores of SOTF and Playground in Florence, Mantovani in Figline Valdarno and Ancote in Pavia.

The proceeds were donated to support the Meyer Pediatric Hospital Foundation in Florence and the bags were first presented at Lineapelle and produced by Loipell.

Massimiliano Giornetti, director of Polimoda, said in a statement: “Talking about sustainability today implies for a company like Polimoda, which has been involved in social and ethical issues for 35 years, to invest in the human aspect.

“We have always been particularly attentive to diversity and inclusiveness and we like to show a lesser-known side of fashion, collaboration. Think Bag has offered us interesting food for thought, making us understand that fashion can be sustainable, socially responsible and at the same time have high aesthetic content.”

Matteo Rovelli, Think Bag project manager for Leather & Luxury, added: “It was really exciting to see the two sides of the industry collaborate in an environment like Polimoda, a melting pot of creativity.

“Leather & Luxury has always been alongside young designers, high luxury brands and emerging brands, in order to support them in the search for suppliers and partners for the development of their Made in Italy collections.”
