Swedish School of Textiles graduates showcase experimental collections at Copenhagen fashion week

The Swedish School of Textiles presented its Spring/Summer 2027 graduate runway show during Copenhagen Fashion Week, bringing together 22 graduating designers at Langelinie Pavilion.

The collections explored fashion through material experimentation, humour, construction and visual communication. Designs included unconventional elements such as mop-inspired footwear, illuminated dresses, nail-covered trousers and a handbag made from a beanbag.

Textile research remained a strong feature of the show, with graduates working across weaving, embroidery, knitting, felting, wool and machine embroidery. Ebba Carlson Persson, for example, explored the relationship between clothing and light through disco-ball and neon elements, while Ilya Nyuganen experimented with woven, felted and knitted wool.

Other designers focused on construction and form. Tuula Wallace drew on techniques associated with Danish furniture design, while Sally Bjerre Gaarde used coarse weaves and machine embroidery to develop texture and structure. Iris Phillips, who opened the show, explored bodily posture through undulating silhouettes and sculptural leather elements.

Across the collections, the graduate show demonstrated how textile-focused fashion education can provide a foundation for experimentation with materials, techniques and forms. Despite the playful character of several designs, the collections also reflected extensive hand-sewing, handweaving and hand-embroidery, highlighting the technical development underpinning the students' work.
