American apparel brand Vans has partnered with the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) to launch the NAACP Creative Sole Scholarship Powered By Vans, a scholarship program aimed to support African American students.

The 50 selected students chosen by N-Spire, a committee within NAACP, will be announced on 9 August and will be given 5,000 dollars each towards their tuition fees.

Students applying for the scholarship must be interested in pursuing a creative career such as architecture, art, communications, design, journalism, marketing or music.

Additionally, to apply the student has to be African American, a member of the NAACP, a United States resident, be a graduating high school senior or undergraduate student, be enrolled or accepted to an accredited college or university and possess a grade point average of at least 3.0.

Yumeka Rushing, NAACP’s chief strategy officer, said in a statement: “Vans' commitment to tackle racism while ensuring diversity and inclusion become a mainstay across communities and industries is an essential step in the fight against institutional racism. We look forward to a sustained partnership that brings about change for the Black community.”

The applications are now open and close on 18 June.
