Balenciaga has committed to establishing two four-year scholarships throught the Black Alumni of Pratt after the brand's creative director Demna Gvasalia was recognized with the Creative Spirit Award at the university's scholarship benefit gala last night.
The Black Alumni of Pratt was established in 1990 by Pratt Institute alumni who recognized that the African American and Hispanic demographics account for a significantly small percentage of workers in the art and design industries. The group now works to improve opportunities for students and alumni in these minority groups at the Pratt Institute.
Balenciaga's contribution will allow the Black Alumni of Pratt to offer two students scholarships towards their four years of education at Pratt.
Black Alumni of Pratt has raised over 5 million dollars to helping students fund their education since its inception 28 years ago.
