Binghamton University has appointed Alesha Bowman as director of its Promise Scholars Initiative, a programme designed to improve student retention and strengthen a sense of belonging on campus.
According to the university, Bowman joined Binghamton in October 2025 and is preparing to launch the programme’s pilot cohort in fall 2026. The initiative will support second-year students through graduation with academic planning, mentorship and access to campus resources.
The programme’s flagship component, Passport to Promise, will initially include a cohort of around 25 students and aims to help participants overcome challenges that can affect retention and degree completion. Support may include guidance on time management, academic pressures and connecting students with university services.
Before joining Binghamton, Bowman served as an assistant professor in the Fashion Buying and Merchandising programme at Herkimer College and led the SUNY Advancing Success in Associate Pathways (ASAP) student success initiative. Her background combines experience in higher education administration with an earlier career in fashion merchandising.
University officials say the programme aims to improve graduation outcomes and student engagement while advancing broader goals around inclusion and student success.
