Birmingham City University showcases student fashion at London Fashion Week

Birmingham City University presented the work of 13 fashion students and graduates at Somerset House during London Fashion Week on September 17. The institution stood as the sole higher education establishment to host a dedicated exhibition on the official schedule this season, marking its second consecutive appearance at the event.

The showcase featured collections from BA and MA designers, presented directly to trade buyers, press representatives, and industry figures from publications including Elle, Harper's Bazaar, and Perfect Magazine.

The exhibited works spanned apparel and accessories, demonstrating a broaden scope from the institution’s previous accessory-focused presentation. Featured designers included BA Fashion Design graduates Sean Pajarillo, who expanded his portfolio into full garment construction, and Zoe Bennett, whose collection secured additional commercial placement at Selfridges in Birmingham.

Industry representatives and university leadership, including Vice-Chancellor Professor David Mba and Chancellor Ade Adepitan, attended the event to engage with buyers and view the design outputs.

The institution's repeat placement on the London Fashion Week schedule reflects broader efforts by the British Fashion Council to decentralize talent discovery outside London's traditional academic centers. By securing direct access to major buyers and media for regional graduates, Birmingham City University establishes a competitive commercial pipeline for its fashion programs while integrating emerging technologies, such as digital fashion development, into its core curriculum.
