The British Academy of Jewellery (BAJ) and modern mining company Fuli Gemstones have collaborated to showcase the culmination of the BAJ and Fuli Gemstones’ joint jewellery manufacturing project.

BAJ jewellery design and manufacturing diploma students used peridot stones donated by Fuli Gemstones to create a piece of jewellery. Students researched the history of the stone they were given and they were given the task of reinterpreting it with a modern twist for the exhibition.

The project aims to give the students real-life work experience in the jewellery industry while also working with peridot stones.

Fuli Gemstones’ chief marketing officer Pia Tonna said in a statement: “The team at Fuli Gemstones were so happy to be able to help and collaborate with the final year BAJ students, through the company’s donation of peridot gemstones.

“Fuli’s brief to the students was simple, to not hamper creativity, ‘be inspired by the history and mystery of peridot’. Fuli’s mission is to educate the next generation of jewellery designers on its natural peridot, collaborating with designers to create innovative jewellery, set with Fuli’s peridot, the results of all the students’ work were extremely gratifying.”

Sally Collins, BAJ’s jewellery diplomas programme lead, added: “The BAJ are so grateful for the incredible generosity of Fuli Gemstones in our recent collaborative project. Level 5 students were all gifted a stunning Peridot gemstone to include in their jewellery pieces, and to inspire their designs; the resulting work is bold, innovative, beautifully crafted and above all, represents each student's unique interpretation of the story of peridot.”
