Last month, a group of fashion design students of the Valencia Design School (EASD) showed their creations in the school’s Crazy Design Performance Fashion Show.

The Crazy Design Performance Fashion Show, was part of the Spanish course Designing Performances at EASD. Students from the academic year 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 participated in the show, which took place a year later due to the pandemic.

This year’s edition of the show was called ‘Only Upcycling’. Students of the Designing Performances program had to design pieces of clothing from fabric scraps and other industrial waste. For the project, EASD Valencia collaborated with Koopera, an organization that advocates for protecting the planet and the inclusion of the most disadvantaged in society through its upcycled pieces.

The project consisted of two parts, a catwalk show at the Plaza Viriato square followed by a parade through the old city centre of Valencia, according to the article on the school’s website.

Head of fashion design at EASD Valencia and director of the project, Isbel Messeguer, said she was inspired by climate activist Greta Thunberg for the show: “At this very moment we have a serious problem, the fashion waste we produce and products never end up being used. Upcycling is a process that transforms all of this waste into the design.”
