Ravensbourne BA (Hons) Fashion alumna, Fatima Miñana, has been awarded the Samsung EGO Prize at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Madrid (MBFWM). Miñana, graduated in 2018 from Ravensbourne, received the award for ‘Best Young Talent’ for her ‘Geometry of Fear’ A/W 2020 collection. She took inspiration from the sculptural movement of the same name, which saw young artists of the 1950s use jagged, angular designs to express their feelings of anguish and discomfort following the Second World War.

‘Geometry of Fear’ is Miñana’s debut womenswear collection, blending relaxed silhouettes with pieces directly inspired by the sculptural movement. Contrasting muted colours with bright neon and rough textures.

“I am very happy and surprised to have received the award. As it was the first time I was showing a collection at MBFW Madrid, I did not think I could win it,” Miñana aid. “This award reassures me that I should keep pursuing my dreams. It drives me and gives me strength to keep working. My work has received a lot of publicity from the award and it has also given me the opportunity to show my collection at MBFW Tbilisi.”

EGO is a platform for up-and-coming fashion designers and is a biannual event organized by IFEMA within the framework of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Madrid.
