On the occasion of Miffy's 65th birthday, the Centraal Museum in Utrecht, The Netherlands, will be presenting 86 Miffy’s in a new outfit. International fashion students from Nottingham, Hong Kong, Milan, Mexico, and the Netherlands created the designs.

The project, Miffy Fashion Design, by Mercis bv, started in 2019 and is the foundation of the exhibition. The primary goal was to share Dick Bruna's love for the creative process and give young designers a platform to share their own unique perspective. Renowned art and design academies from five countries participated. The international students were inspired by Dick Bruna's work, philosophy, and design principles.

The result is a line-up of 86 international and contemporary designs. Among the designs are a Miffy in a spacesuit, inspired by the movie 2001: A Space Odyssey, a Miffy inspired by Oaxaca-Mexican folk art and a Miffy in a haute couture dress. The ten best designs were selected by a jury of leading fashion designers and will be rewarded at the end of this year with the official execution of their design.

The ten winners are: Ceciel Beltman and Rosa Mol (HKU), Jennifer Potter (Nottingham Trent University, UK), Josephina Kunzduran (Istituto Europeo di Design Milano, Italy), Chun Lam Wong (Hong Kong Design Institute, China), Ivette Elguea García del Camino (Tecnológico de Monterrey, Mexico), Elena Gregori (Istituto Europeo di Design Milano, Italy), María Alejandra Gutiérrez de la Guardia (Tecnológico de Monterrey, Mexico), Cheong Hung (Nottingham Trent University, UK) and Emmy Eaves (Nottingham Trent University, UK).

The exhibition can be seen from 20 June until 20 September 2020.
