Destiny Charles, a senior at Miami’s Design and Architecture Senior High School (DASH), is the first recipient of the Academic Excellence Scholarship, offered by Istituto Marangoni Miami to exceptional DASH students. As the recipient of the scholarship, Charles will receive 72,000 US dollars worth of tuition fees.

“We are proud of Destiny for winning the prestigious Istituto Marangoni Scholarship," said Giovana Sorondo, head of DASH’s Fashion Design Program, in a statement. “Excelling in art, design and academics, her positive attitude, coupled with a sense of purpose, will make her a very successful college student”.

Launched earlier this year, the scholarship programme aims to support exceptional students with potential to make a positive contribution to the fashion industry. Applicants are evaluated on academic performance, fashion portfolio and community service by DASH teachers and Massimo Casagrande, director of education at Istituto Marangoni.

Founded in 1935 in Milan, Istituto Marangoni is one of the largest and most prestigious fashion schools in the world. In addition to Miami, the school has eight other international campuses, including Paris, London, Mumbai and Shanghai. Famous alumni include Domenico Dolce (Dolce & Gabbana) and Franco Moschino.
