For the first time in history, bridal brands Hitched, Perfect Wedding and You & Your Wedding have teamed up to organize the UK Wedding Awards. The debut competition is open to nearly everyone working in the bridal business, ranging from bakeries who sell wedding cakes to wedding photographers. As many women will agree, the dress worn on the big day is very important, which is why the UK Wedding Awards includes an award for the “Best Bridal Collection”. London College of Fashion (LCF) alumna Sanyukta Shresta is nominated in two of the awards’ categories: ‘Best Bridal Collection’ and ‘Best Bridal Designer’.

”The nomination shows that the bridal industry is starting to recognize eco-friendly designs and it makes me incredibly proud,” Shresta told LCF. “It inspires and encourages me to work even harder to create better work. And deep in my heart I hope it somehow creates a spark in other designers towards an eco-friendly approach.” Shresta’s collections are characterized by their feminine look, which is expressed by the designer’s use of lace and bows. Furthermore, sustainability is always central in her work.

Shresta graduated from her MA Pattern and Garment Technology at the London based fashion school in 2005. After graduating, she set up her eponymous bridal label. The Nepalese born designer mainly stands out in the bridal market because of her focus on sustainability. Shresta solely works with organic and fair-trade fabrics, and also donates a percentage of her income to a charity which supports the ‘Nepal Earthquake Aid Relief’.

Shresta’s work has not gone unnoticed in recent years, as the LCF-alumna already won awards such as ‘The Best Perfect Wedding Newcomer Award’ in 2011 and the ‘Perfect Wedding Names to Watch Award’ in 2013, which were both awarded by bridal magazine ‘Perfect Wedding’.

The winners of the ‘UK Wedding Awards 2016’ are set to be announced in Spring 2016. The jury who will select the winning entries, consists of six professionals from the wedding industry. Amongst them are ‘You & Your Wedding’ editors Peta Hunt and Julia Scirrroto, as well as ‘You & Your Wedding’ and ‘Perfect Wedding’ publisher Zoe Jobson. Other designers who are shortlisted for the ‘Best Bridal Collection’ award, include Kelsey Rose, Ian Stuart and Alfred Angelo.
