Eyewear manufacturer Marcolin has launched a new collaboration with the New York Institute of Technology (New York Tech) aimed at rethinking the future of eyewear design through a multidisciplinary academic–industry project titled “Vision Reframed: Designing Eyewear Beyond Boundaries.”

The initiative, which began this month, brought together students from New York Tech’s Architecture, Interior Design, Digital Art and Design, and medical programs. Guided by faculty members Jordan Keys and Alessandro Melis, and supported by Marcolin’s global design team, participants developed conceptual eyewear proposals focused on neurodiversity, user wellbeing, and sustainability.

Throughout the program, students participated in workshops on inclusive design, sustainable materials, artificial intelligence, and mixed reality. Organisers said the aim was to encourage design thinking that integrates aesthetics, ergonomics, and emerging technologies with ethical considerations.

The partnership also facilitated direct exchanges between Marcolin executives and the academic community. At the project’s launch event, Marcolin CEO & General Manager Fabrizio Curci delivered a keynote highlighting innovation and social responsibility as key drivers of the eyewear industry’s future. Additional speakers included Marcolin North America CEO Marco D’Acunzo, Group Style & Product Development Director Lara Marogna, and Group Communication & ESG Director Clara Magnanini.

Final project presentations were held on November 12 before a jury of New York Tech representatives and Marcolin management. The top concepts received awards and may advance to prototype stage. Selected students will also have access to mentorship opportunities and potential internships with the company.

Marcolin said the collaboration underscores its broader commitment to innovation, talent development, and fostering dialogue between academia and industry.
