Assopellettieri and the Made in Italy Tuscany Academy (MITA) have launched the MITA and Assopellettieri Alliance, a long-term initiative to strengthen training in the Italian leather goods sector.

The partnership aims to pass on craftsmanship skills while integrating new technologies, helping companies find qualified talent and offering young people career opportunities. The project officially debuted at MITA’s Scandicci campus on September 18, where industry and education leaders discussed training needs.

The alliance also has an international scope, starting with a program in Nairobi, Kenya, developed with the UN’s International Trade Centre and the Ethical Fashion Initiative. Thirty-five young artisans are being trained in leatherworking, with support from Vivienne Westwood and local Salesian organizations. The three top students will complete internships in Italian companies.

According to MITA, the training emphasizes experiential and collaborative learning, while Assopellettieri views the initiative as a way to sustain Italian know-how and promote inclusive growth abroad
