South Florida Fashion Academy has appointed fashion designer Mitchell Perry, known for his appearance on season 13 of Project Runway, as the new director of its Fashion Design & Merchandising Department for the 2026–2027 academic year.

Based in Boca Raton, Florida, the private academy said Perry will oversee the fashion design programme, bringing industry experience to students pursuing careers in fashion. His appointment reflects a broader trend among fashion education providers of recruiting practitioners with professional and media profiles to lead teaching and curriculum development.

Perry, who gained national recognition through Bravo TV's Project Runway, is expected to guide students in fashion design and merchandising while contributing to programme development for the upcoming school year.

The appointment highlights the continued emphasis on industry-connected education, with institutions increasingly seeking faculty members who combine creative practice with professional experience to prepare students for careers in the fashion sector.
