Every year the Gerrit Rietveld Academie, from Amsterdam, The Netherlands, presents a new batch of graduates of the fashion department during a fashion show. This year there will not be a fashion show, but a five-day exhibition in the gym of the old academy building in Amsterdam. In a setting that resembles a film set, a multidisciplinary performance will take place that connects visitor and designer.
The graduation works of Irene Ha, Miladt (Milad Taheri), Idan Grady, Darwin Winklaar, Laura Fernández Antolín, Louise Gjessø, and Javier Velasquez are in the spotlight of the fashion show. With their work, they question the current status of the fashion industry and the usefulness of an 'old-fashioned' catwalk presentation. Head of Department Niels Klavers says in the press release that students also want to look at the consequences of the Corona crisis. "With this presentation, they show their world after Covid-19."
The Rietveld Academie Fashion Show 2020 takes place from 26 to 30 August and can be visited free of charge after registering for a time slot on the academy's website.
