Santa Marcelina College from São Paulo has won The Newcomers Contest, a fashion design competition organised as a part of the national fashion and art festival DFB. An event that features the work of students and teachers from universities and fashion colleges from all over Brazil.

In second place came Senac Sergipe, followed by FBUni, which are both schools located in the northeastern part of Brazil. Unifor from the southeastern state of Minas Gerais, Potiguar University from the state of Rio Grande do Norte in the northeast, and Novo UFC from the state of Ceará, also in the northeast, also participated.

On the catwalk, all of the presentations included plenty of lace, frills, sheer fabrics and cut-outs in high quality fabrics.

The show featured a mix of textures and decorative fabrics. Also worth mentioning: the handcrafted details, made using macramé (a type of lace or fringe consisting of knotted cords or thick threads in a geometric pattern), embroidery and fuxico (handmade flowers made out of fabric scraps).
