Saxion University of Applied Sciences and various partners have received a subsidy of 1.2 million euros from the European Institute of Innovation and Technology. According to the press release, the subsidy will be used to develop an eco-system for the sustainable textile industry in which entrepreneurship is central. In this program, students from various textile courses will be given help to set up a start-up related to sustainable textiles.

Saxion University of Applied Sciences has collaborated with RWTH Aachen, Ghent University of Applied Sciences, Vilnius University, Istanbul University, and the European Technology Platform for the Future of Textiles and Clothing. According to the press release, the ultimate goal is to mentor 800 students and 100 teachers, resulting in at least 50 start-ups. The project will start in July 2022 and will run for two years.

According to Saxion and the European Institute of Innovation and Technology, start-ups play a major role in achieving the European Union's objectives regarding sustainable textiles. The parties hope to improve and accelerate the transition to circular textiles by stimulating entrepreneurship and innovation.
