Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) has hired Darrell Naylor-Johnson as the university’s new vice president and he started the new position on June 13.

In this role, Naylor-Johnson will be responsible for empowering the university’s faculty, staff and students. In addition, he will also lead the office of inclusion.

In 1992, SCAD alumnus Naylor-Johnson started off in the university as a professor of foundation studies and in 2000, he became the dean of the School of Fine Arts.

Naylor-Johnson said in a statement: “Becoming the new VP of SCAD Savannah is a remarkable privilege and honour. I have been a member of the Savannah and SCAD communities for more than 30 years.

“I have witnessed SCAD's long legacy of giving in Savannah, uplifting diverse voices, and rallying our students to volunteer to help solve problems. I will build on these positive past experiences in my new role.

“Strengthening and deepening the ties between the local community and SCAD makes Savannah a more beautiful, creative, inclusive, and inspiring place for us all.”
