A senior fashion merchandising student from Sam Houston State University (SHSU) has taken part in the Gucci Program for Scholars, a prestigious eight-week luxury retail apprenticeship hosted by the Italian fashion house Gucci. The opportunity marked SHSU as the third university in Texas to participate in the programme as reported on the University's website.

Marisol Torres, who is completing her degree in fashion merchandising, joined 12 other students from across the United States in the initiative, which offers an insider perspective on the operations of a global luxury brand. Participants completed workshops and discussions with Gucci leadership before developing and presenting a capstone project to company executives.

While much of the programme took place remotely, Torres also attended an in-person tour of a nearby Gucci retail location in Dallas, gaining practical insight into store operations and merchandising strategies. She said the experience reinforced her confidence and readiness to enter the fashion industry following graduation.

The Gucci Program for Scholars provides students with professional exposure beyond the classroom and complements SHSU’s ongoing efforts to broaden experiential learning opportunities in fashion education.
