From the global retail industry, National Retail Federation (NRF) picked high street fashion chain Topshop for this years International Retailer of the Year NRF Annual Award. The exact criteria isn’t published, but the NRF selects the winner

for its excellence nationally and internationally.

Owner of Arcadia Group Sir Phillip Green was presented with the award. Besides Topshop, the Group also features Bhs, Burton, Dorothy Perkins, Evans, Miss Selfridge and Wallis. The company has a value of over 2,8 milliard GBP, and has 2778 stores with more then 45.000 employees. Topshop is the only store of the Group that’s located in the US.

With his retail empire Green is led to believe to avoide tax within the UK, and wants to open more shops abroad. According to British Vogue he’s looking to open stores in Australia, Brazil, Canada, Indonesia, Japan, Russia, and Thailand. Besides launch stores internationally, Green is said not to increase the current tax of 17,5 to 20% of its shop stock. Topshop is not putting through the tax rise, or at least not in a way the consumer will feel in his wallet. Green wants to offer sharp prices to his customers, and keep offering them new products.

Last December, Ukuncut targeted Green for tax avoidance. The protesters managed to close down flagship Topshop and Bhs right before the busy Christmas shopping periode.
