Danish menswear designer Astrid Andersen has designed a 17-piece luxe streetwear collection for the high street fashion chain, Topman.

Launching on June 12, the collection predominately features oversized silhouettes as per Andersen’s signature style and centres around a simple yet striking colour palette of black, white and carnation pink. These colours are then accentuated by the use of contrasting fabrics and techniques, and finished off with copper foils and chunky copper metalwork.

Explaining the collaboration, Andersen said: “I make sport-inspired casual wear with a luxurious feel. For Topman, I’m creating a small collab collection that I’m super excited about. It’s almost like doing a diffusion line where you want to draw a more commercial line from the brand without losing the signature.

“I want it to be very clean and sleek but at the same time push some materials and techniques that will be unconventional for Topman to use in their menswear selection.”

Highlights of the collection include the pink carnation crushed velvet oversized tracksuit, as well as the neoprene bomber jackets and oversized vests. Other items featured includes closed mesh oversized T-shirts and shorts, brushed back fleece sweatpants, funnel neck sweatshirts, and a black pique nylon rucksack.

Commenting on the inspiration of the collection, Andersen added: “The inspiration for the design was a website I found on Punjab basket teams from India. There were images from the early fifties right up to today so the inspiration became the crossover references on how this was originally a national sport but as time progressed it became highly Americanised.”

The collection marks the designer’s first collection for the retailer, but she has worked with Topman before as she has progressed through three seasons of the Topman and Fashion East designer support scheme ‘Man’ and is about to embark on her third season of the Topman sponsored British Fashion Council’s ‘NewGen Men’ initiative as part of London Collections: Men this month.

The Astrid Andersen for Topman collaboration will be available from June 12 at Topman Oxford Circus, London, Selfridges in London, Topman New York and LA, as well as online at Topman.com. Retail prices for the collection start at 50 pounds.
