Trend watch: varsity

American sportswear will be a big trend for spring and the major high street stores have stocked their shelves with varsity-inspired collections for men.

The trend stems down from the catwalks, which saw major designers such as Balenciaga embrace the theme, where muscle tops, gym shorts and biker vests were mixed with ready-to-wear. Leather detailing alongside athetlic and perfomance style fabrics such as mesh and nylon, made for luxe, sporty looks.

Key items such as baseball jerseys, basketball vests, zip-through hoodies and raglan tees feel fresh when executed in neutral block colours, while team numbers and insignia appear stripped back on two-tone designs.
