May 31, 2019
As part of the International Catwalk Show, more than 40 high-caliber international colleges will present their graduate collections at this year's London Graduate Fashion Week (LGFW).
The AMD Akademie Mode & Design is also represented on the important platform with the 100% sustainable, experimental collection by Katharina Rapp on 5 June 2019. "Fashion, but also the training in fashion design will be exciting and relevant in the international context," emphasizes Prof. Ulrike Nägele, program director responsible for fashion design (B.A.) on the importance of participation in the LGFW. When deciding to send Katharina Rapp to London as the best AMD graduate in 2019, she says: "Katharina Rapp'scollection is touching, emotionally and cleverly conceived. Aesthetically inspired by thecouture of the 1930s, the designer extends her work to include artistic-conceptual aspectssuch as transition, survival and exaggeration. "
In her pure womenswear collection "Draft of Evolution" Rapp shows sustainable, experimental couture. "Nature is for me the greatest source of inspiration and natural starting point of my work - it is a never-ending process of colors or surface structures." Within the "Draft of Evolution" collection, this process of color and structure is taken up and implemented with the help of exclusively sustainable materials . "
The seven-part collection is a play of form, color and material. Couture meets Explorer: elegantly draped silhouettes are combined with hybrid outdoor looks. The outfits show an experimental material manipulation, it is hemp silk, denim, new wool, old ship sails and upcycled materials. The designer creates her own color gradients and powerful painting and collage techniques and combines green, blue and beige tones.
Her workmanship and creative ability are reflected in the overall conception of the Hamburgbased artist who studied at the AMD Munich, in the artistically staged lookbook shoot and in the collection video. The innovative, international style of the designer makes you curious.
