London - Lanvin has found half of its successor to its former, much loved creative director Alber Elbaz, namely Bouchra Jarrar. The French haute couture designer has officially been named as Lanvin's artistic director of women's collection following a week of speculation concerning her impending appointment at Lanvin.

Jarrar, who studied at Ecole Duperre and worked for the likes of Balenciaga and Jean Paul Gaultier, is set to begin her new role next week Monday and will showcase her first collection for the fashion house this autumn in time for the spring-summer 2017 season.

Bouchra Jarrar confirmed as Lanvin's new women's wear artistic director

"Bouchra Jarrar is a talented and visionary designer. She is the obvious choice for Lanvin. Her timeless style is in keeping with the style and values of our company," said Lanvin chief executive officer Michèle Huiban on Jarrar appointment in a statement released on Lanvin's Facebook page. "Her talent, her high standards and her mastery of cuts and fabrics will bring a breath of freshness and modernity into the house, while respecting its soul as the oldest Paris couture house, a symbol of French elegance."

Jarrar, who launched her own signature fashion house in 2010 and was named an official member of the prestigious Chamber Syndicale de la haute couture, reveals that it is a "huge honour" for her to join the team at Lanvin and continue sharing the fashion house's style. "Joining Lanvin meets a desire to expend my creation to wider fields of expression. It is my intention to bring to Lanvin the harmony and consistency of a fashion designed for women, a fashion of our time," said Jarrar.

In her new role, Jarrar will be tasked with reinventing Lanvin's women's wear collection, which was previously created around former creative director Alber Elbaz's vision. Following his ousted exit last autumn, Lanvin worked with its in-house design team, lead by Chemena Kamali and Lucio Finale, to develop its pre-autumn and autumn 2016/2017 women's wear collections. However, its catwalk show during Paris Fashion Week received lukewarm reviews, so it will be up to Jarrar to stem slipping sales at the fashion house.

She will also be responsible for overseeing the fashion house handbags line, to ensure that Lanvin's leather goods business is able to hold is own against other luxury fashion rivals. "Mrs Wang, Bouchra Jarrar and I share the same modern vision of fashion, so it was only natural that our paths should cross and lead to a fruitful collaboration," added Huiban.

Following Jarrar appointment, new reports indicate that Lucas Ossendrijver is currently in discussion with the fashion house to secure his position as head of men's wear. Elbaz first hires Ossendrijver from Dior Homme in 2005 to refresh Lanvin's men's wear.
