Alstyle Apparel to close distribution center and lay off employees

Alstyle Apparel just announced that its closing its distribution center soon. The brand will also additionally lay off 81 employees along with its closure.

The everyday wear brand's Anaheim distribution will close its doors officially according to notices filed with the state Employment Development Department, as reported by Apparel News. Its 200,000-square-foot distribution center is being consolidated with a new larger facility in Jarupa Valley. As far as the employees that may be laid off, the company is attempting to help provide a solution. "We made an offer to have them relocate to the new facility, which I believe is 35 miles away, with relocation incentives to move," Garry Belle, a Gildan Activewear spokesman, said in an email according to Apparel News. "At this point, more than 30 percent have chosen to move to the new facility.”

The t-shirt and sweatshirt company was acquired by Gildan Activewear in 2016. Currently, Gildan Activewear has over 42,000 employees internationally. The company also acquired major retail brand American Apparel in the past. Gildan also manufactures and distributes Under Armour and New Balance brand socks.
