Medina-based Slate Rock Safety, a retailer and distributor of safety apparel and equipment, is being acquired by Dayton-based Ritz Safety LLC, Ritz announced on Wednesday, June 15.

“Ritz Safety LLC is excited to announce the acquisition of Slate Rock Safety, LLC in Medina, Ohio, effective June 1, 2016. Slate Rock Safety occupies a unique role in the safety market, as an industry-leading e-commerce retailer and distributor of flame resistant work apparel and other personal protective equipment, serving local customers in the Cleveland area and a wide variety of national accounts across the country,” Ritz said in announcing the deal.

Purchasing Slate Rock not only gives Ritz some new customers and geographic presence, but also increases the company’s online sales efforts, said Ken Fisher, president of Ritz Safety.

Terms of the transaction were not disclosed, although this transaction is the third strategic acquirement Ritz has announced in the past year.

It acquired Alabama-based Safety Source Inc. in July 2015 and Portland-based Public Works Supply Inc. on May 1, 2016.

“We are excited with our Midwest expansion and the added e-commerce capability Slate Rock Safety brings to Ritz Safety and its 5,000-plus customers. Our customers expect multiple sales channels to meet their safety needs, and Ritz Safety is working hard to deliver those solutions on the web, with outside and inside sales experts, and with customer friendly retail store fronts,” Fisher said.
