Premium British footwear brand Start-Rite has confirmed that Stephen Riley has joined the board as non-executive chairman.

Riley has experience with a number of companies specialising in consumer brands and international development, including Antler, Denby, Gilbert Rugby, Salter, Sealskinz, Thomas Sanderson, Colman’s, Powakaddy Golf, Lemsip and Gaviscon. It is hoped that this consumer and brand experience will ensure the brands continuing focus.

"I am delighted that Stephen has agreed to join us,” says Peter Lamble, Start-rite’s chairman and CEO. “Today, consumers play a pivotal role, and business success is determined by how well companies can meet their demands and expectations. Stephen's consumer and brand experience, combined with a common sense approach, will ensure we remain focussed on this as the business progresses.”

Riley’s appointment follows the recent announcement that Peter Lamble is to step down as the footwear company’s joint chairman and chief executive officer after 20 years, as the brand looks to appointment a new chairman and CEO. Lamble will remain with the company as a “key” non-executive on the footwear brand’s parent company James Southall board.
