Swedish street fashion brand WeSC has named Tony Wester as its new chief executive officer, to succeed Johan Heijbel who will remain with the company as a board member.

Wester, who was chief executive of Gant Sweden from 2008 to 2015, will join WeSC on September 1, and has been challenged with leading the brand into a new phase of growth. The Swedish label announced earlier this year it is opening four new stores in the next 18 months, with the US and another London location targeted.

WeSC chairman Theodor Dalenson, said: "We've held off recruiting a new CEO until we had a stronger balance sheet, our new business strategy was in place and we had recruited a mostly new management team.

“These steps have now been completed and we, therefore, sought to recruit a new CEO, with solid industry experience from both sales and store openings, to implement our new brand and retail strategy. Tony Wester has that experience and we hope that he can lead WeSC and subsidiary The Shirt Factory into a new growth phase.”

WeSC was launched in 2000 and is currently present in 25 countries.
