WHERE DOES JEANS COME FROM? HOW DID THE SKIRT AND BIKINI BECOME SYMBOLS OF REBELLION, STYLE, OR POWER?
The Encyclopedia of Fashion examines our wardrobes in depth: from ancient rituals to contemporary runways, from textile revolutions to social movements, and from pop icons to industrial transformations.
With over 100 entries, this illustrated dictionary traces the history of clothing, accessories, and key concepts that have shaped the way we dress and present ourselves to the world. Audrey Millet invites readers to approach fashion as a mirror of society, blending historical rigor with surprising anecdotes and sociological insight.
Each illustration, created by a former ESMOD student, is a work of art in its own right, engaging with the text to elevate clothing into an object of culture and memory.
A demanding, rich, and indispensable book for anyone interested in fashion, history, or the broader questions of economy and power—a unique journey across centuries, continents, and styles.
