Research

The research that will give rise to the over one thousand innovative materials for the footwear, clothing, furniture and jewelry industry that will be presented at the 28th edition of INSPIRAMAIS, in Porto Alegre/RS, is already underway. Scheduled for July 11 and 12, at Centro de Eventos da Federação das Indústrias do Estado do Rio Grande do Sul (FIERGS), the show will have the "Homo Faber” research as its theme.

Inspired by the work of American sociologist and historian Richard Sennett, the research explores manual and non-industrialized work, highlighting the increasing relevance of originality in light of a world permeated by copies and standardized products. The designer and coordinator of the Nucleus of Design and Research of Brazilian Association of Leather, Footwear and Component Companies (Assintecal), Walter Rodrigues, is once again at the forefront of the research, which is under development in the factories participating in INSPIRAMAIS. “In current times, the creativity and capacity inherent in humans has been replaced by the need for high production, stratospheric volumes that trivialize creation and result in the standardization of products. Today, consumers are more connected on social media, are excellent researchers and seek products that reflect the essence of brands, which makes originality increasingly relevant. The certifications and traceability processes, for example, explain the origin of the materials and define the purchase selections by these consumers”, the designer highlights, emphasizing that the ongoing research will seek never-before-seen fashion materials that emphasize handmade and creativity. Hands are no longer separated from the mind, neither intellectually nor socially. At the next INSPIRAMAIS, this rule will be in the materials presented in the exhibit”, Rodrigues explains.

Themes
In this context, the themes of the Homo Faber research include Pragmatism, which brings the quality, perfection, refinement and excellence of “Made in Italy”, very present in Bottega Veneta, Prada and Salvatore Ferragamo collections; Geometry, present in brands such as Eudon Choi, Sacai, Rick Owens and Cubel; and Poetry, which emphasizes the importance of the handmade aspect in the pieces, present in collections of major international brands, such as Dior and Balmain. “Here in Brazil, there is a very interesting crop of new designers who feature the handmade aspect in their creations, such as João Maraschini, who has been standing out in the international scene using this creation technique”, Rodrigues comments.

In the color palette, the Homo Faber research features the colors Emperador, Cabana Blue, Tuscany, Cayenne, Nocturne, Jade Green, Turbulence, Burnit Sienna, Baroque Rose and Antler.
