Fashion retailer Diesel has confirmed that Andreas Melbostad

has been appointed creative director for the womenswear collections for its premium line Diesel Black Gold.

Norwegian fashion designer Melbostad assumes his new role starting with the autumn/winter 2013 season and the retailer stated that he was chosen as they felt his signature “sophisticated urban style with rock-chic attitude” would complement the contemporary brand.

Beginning his career with Nicole Farhi, Melbostad has gone on to collaborate with Alber Elbaz on the Guy Laroche and Yves Saint Laurent Rive Gauche collections, as well as working at Nina Ricci, Donna Karan and Calvin Klein, before becoming the creative director of Phi.

Melbostad replaces Sophia Kokosalaki who quit the label back in August, and will showcase his debut pre-fall 2013 collection in December, followed by the ready-to-wear show in New York in February 2013.
