Fast Retailing sets up J Brand Japan

Japanese retail holding company Fast Retailing has

announced that it is setting up a new subsidiary company, J Brand Japan, to “create and develop” the denim brand in Japan.

Fast Retailing, which designs, manufactures and sells clothes under numerous brands including Uniqlo, Comptoir des Cotonniers, GU, Helmut Lang, Princesse tam.tam, and Theory, added the premium denim label, J Brand to its portfolio in December 2012 after acquiring a majority stake.

The subsidiary J Brand company for the Japanese market will be fully-owned by Fast Retailing, after the group confirmed that they had paid-in 10 million yen as capital to launch the company.

In a short statement, the Japanese group stated that they plan to introduce J Brand operations in the region by autumn 2013, through direct sales, the opening and managing of J Brand stores, as well as sales and distribution through select retailers.
