According to the Indian Ministry of Corporate Affairs, global retail

giant Walmart recently registered a new company under the name of Walmart India Pvt. Ltd. This move is in preparation for the company entering India’s multi-brand retail sector.

In October of last year, Walmart had announced its split from Indian partner Bharti Enterprises after six years to pursue its business in India independently. Now, the US retailer seems intent on entering the market with a new partner.

With effect of yesterday, January 20th, former senior vice president of Walmart International Krish Iyer has taken over as the new president and CEO of Walmart India. Before joining Walmart in 2012, Iyer worked for six years in various functions with the A. S. Watson Group, the largest health and beauty retailer in Hong Kong. He was the group’s managing director for Thailand, Taiwan and the Philippines and regional director for store design and development for Asia and Eastern Europe. Before his stint at A. S. Watson, Iyer was managing director and CEO at the Indian retail company Piramyd Retail Limited.
