Now its luxury home furnishing labels to who are testing waters

in India. Textile designer Sarita Handa opened her store in Delhi’s Khan Market recently stocking luxury bedding, cushions, drapes and fabrics range apart from French merino wool brand Brun de Vian-Tiran. Handa does private label bedding for the likes of Pottery Barn, Macy’s, Ethan Allen, Zara Home and Bloomingdales.

Before Handa’s attempt to bring premium home furnishing to India, Blues Clothing Company had brought in Versace and Corneliani and tested the market with Versace Home — the home furniture and furnishing line of the fashion house. More recently International Furniture Brands brought in Fendi furnishing along with their Fendi Casa brand. And it’s being reported that Valentino, Ralph Lauren and Armani are waiting to make an entry into this segment.

While international brands are eyeing the Rs 16,500 crores Indian furnishing market, players like D’décor Home and domestic brands like Maishaa, Address Home, Onset, Ishatvam, consider themselves belonging to premium luxury segment. While it is difficult to segregate the industry, price point is considered to be the only way to classify this segment.

Thread count is the most important measure for exclusivity in home furnishing - more the thread count, costlier the fabric. According to the big players in this segment, with luxury housing growing in India, luxury furnishing will stay a lucrative option.
