Margaret Howell awarded honorary professorship

Fashion designer Margaret Howell has been made

an honorary professor by the University of Creative Arts. The London Fashion Week designer was presented with the accolade at the Royal Festival Hall, alongside UCA’s graduating students and UCA Chancellor, Zandra Rhodes.

"It's a great honour to receive this award from UCA and I would like to accept it on behalf of everyone at my label," said Howell. "I remember how daunting it was when I graduated from college, so I hope that I can help to encourage and inspire the students today as they begin their careers."

Howell founded her label in the early Seventies after graduated from Goldsmiths College with a degree in Fine Art. Since then she has been renowned for her simple, minimalist aesthetic for both men and women, and has made numerous celebrity fans including Alexa Chung.

In 2007, she was awarded a CBE for her Services to the Fashion Industry, as well as being named a Royal Designer for Industry by the Royal Society of Designers.

Currently, Howell has five shops in the UK, as well as one in Paris and 80 in Japan, and employs 350 people worldwide.
