Rana Plaza owner to be charged in construction violation suit

The owner of Rana Plaza, the building which collapsed in April 2013, killing more

than 1,130 garment workers, is set to be charged in a construction violation suit.

Last month, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed a case which accused 17 people of violating regulations concerning the buildings construction.

However, the filed case did not include the name of the building's owner, Mohammad Sohel Rana, in regards to the ownership of the land and design approval and instead listed his parents.

“Rana's name will be included in the charge sheet as his involvement has been found in a further investigation,” said commission spokesman Pranab Kumar Bhattachajee to Reuters.

Rana is currently being detained. He previously tried flee the country and cross the border to India after the building collapsed last year, but was arrested.
