PME Legend, Cast Iron, Vanguard and Tripper stopped using sandblasting technique on denim.

Fashion company Just Brands announced the measurements for its brands including PME Legend, Vanguard, Cast Iron and Tripper. Further more, we reported earlier this week Diesel said it would make less use of sandblasting in respect of local safety laws. Further more Esprit, G-Star, Levis, H&M and C&A already announced it wouldn’t be using the technique any longer.

Sandblasting is a controversial technique that is used to give denim a worn look. It is debatable due to its risks to workers overseas that apply the procedure. Workers are exposed to crystalline silica, which is linked to deaths from the long decease silicoses. This is exactly why Just Brands decided to ban the sandblasting technique of denim. For the future, Just Brands will use permanganate spraying, hand brush or laser technique to give denim a worn look.

In 2009, the Turkish government already banned sandblasting, according to global umbrella organisation for workers in textiles ITGLWF.
