British luxury leather and stationary company Smythson has appointed Burberry’s former

chief operations officer Andy Janowski as its new CEO.

Janowski, who has been a member of Smythson’s board for the past 18 months, takes over the CEO role from the brand’s owner, Jacques Bahbout, who also serves as the label’s chairman.

Prior to Burberry, Janowski worked at Gap as its vice president of production and supply chain, and before that at Banana Republic where he began his career in 1989. It is due to his “deep understanding of the luxury consumer” that he was appointed to the role.

He starts his new position with immediate effect and will report directly to Bahbout.
