American consumers have spent less on apparel in 2013 than they did in 2012. Clothing sales saw a sharp decline,

as they responded to falling incomes, a new report by the US Department of Labor shows.

The Consumer Expenditure Survey shows overall spending fell by 0.7 percent in 2013, after seeing a 3.5 percent hike in 2012, with spending on apparel down 7.6 percent, the Wall Street Journal reported.
