Foot Locker has begun testing a new delivery service in five of stores in California, which allows shoppers to choose for same

day or next day delivery for five dollars.

The service, which is being offered as an expansion of Foot Locker's in-store pick up option, is run by crowdsourced delivery firm Deliv. Customers can either selected same-day delivery whilst shopping online, or in-store, which will arrive within a two-hour time slot.

“We want our customers to experience speed in everything they do, from shooting hoops to on the track,” commented Foot Locker EVP of operations, Mike Owens. “That’s why we’ve partnered with Deliv to pair our physical stores and online ecommerce sites to offer flexible, fast and affordable delivery for our customers whether they’re shopping online or in person.”

When an order comes in from the footwear retailer, the Deliv engine receives information concerning the item's delivery destination, customer order and delivery time frame. Then the engine matches the order to one of Deliv's crowdsourced drivers in the area and selects the shortest delivery route.

The item purchased is then brought by a mall employee to a central collection point in the mall for the driver to pick up and deliver. Multiple items are collected at each location and then handed to drivers for delivery, which keeps the delivery costs down.

Customers receive a delivery confirmation via email or text message when their order is on the way. Foot Locker also offers a visual map to its customers so they can see where the driver is. Customers are also able to rate the driver and the experience, which is important to the service, because the higher rates a driver receives the more likely the driver will be given more opportunities with Deliv in the future.

Foot Locker aims to roll out its same-day delivery serice to its 1.300 locations across the US and Canada if it proves to be successful. The footwear and sportswear retailer currently has stores in over 23 countries, including the UK.
