Utility brand Wolverine is to be a footwear outfitter for US military

personnel. The company stated America's Department of Defense will see new military recruits required to use their footwear allowance to purchase US-made athletic shoes that are compliant with the Berry Amendment once they are available in the market.

The Berry Amendment, originally passed in 1941, requires the Department of Defense to purchase certain items that have been domestically sourced or manufactured. Lawmakers and manufacturers have been lobbying for a change in the rules as a way to help safeguard US production.

“This policy correction will help strengthen and support the domestic industrial base and the thousands of manufacturing jobs that provide the necessary equipment for the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Special Forces, with no additional cost to the taxpayer,” the company said.

“It also strengthens the ability of industry to provide the full spectrum of footwear needs of the Armed Services, from combat boots to athletic shoes.“
