Amazon is making a big push to hire an additional 3500 employees to their payroll. The 3500 new hires would be across six U.S. cities, including New York. The new hiring push is targeted at adding more corporate and tech jobs to a variety of Amazon's departments including fashion, advertising, and grocery.

“Teams in these cities will support various businesses across Amazon, including AWS, Alexa, Amazon Advertising, Amazon Fashion, OpsTech, and Amazon Fresh, among others,” Amazon said in a blog post. “We expect to hire for a variety of roles, from cloud infrastructure architects and software engineers to data scientists, product managers, and user experience designers.”

In addition to New York, Amazon will also be hiring in Dallas, Detroit, Denver, Phoenix and San Diego. While most retailers took a major hit during the height of the coronavirus pandemic, Amazon actually saw its business grow as more people turned to online shopping.

In February 2019, Amazon formerly pulled out of their plans to open a New York City headquarters, but that hasn't stopped the company from expanding there. Amazon recently unveiled plans to open a 335,000 square foot office space in Hudson Yards. They also purchased the former Lord & Taylor flagship building at a whopping 1 billion dollar price tag. Between the two new office spaces, Amazon will be able to add 2000 jobs in New York City alone.
