Cato August same-store sales rise 4 percent

Sales for the four weeks ended August 29, 2015 at Cato Corporation were 67 million dollars, a 5 percent increase over sales of 63.6 million dollars for the same month ended August 30, 2014. Same-store sales were up 4 percent to the prior year.

“August same-store sales were above our expectations and higher than our recent trend. However, due to strong sales in the back half of last year, we remain cautious for the remainder of the year,” commented John Cato, Chairman, President, and Chief Executive Officer.

Sales for the thirty weeks were 597.7 million dollars, up 1 percent to sales of 589.8 million dollars for the thirty weeks ended August 30, 2014. The company's year-to-date same-store sales decreased 1 percent.

During the month of August, the company opened new stores in Euless and Palmhurst, TX, Oklahoma City, OK, Des Moines, IA, and Asheville, NC. The Company also relocated a store in Tuscaloosa, AL. As of August 29, 2015, Cato operated 1,363 stores in 32 states, compared to 1,334 stores as of August 30, 2014.
