Eddie Bauer's point of sale system has been hacked in a cyber attack directed at multiple restaurants, hotels and retailers.

“While not all transactions during this period were affected, out of an abundance of caution, Eddie Bauer is offering identity protection services to all customers who made purchases or returns during this period,” the company said in a statement issued directly after the markets closed in the U.S. today.

The stores' systems were infected with Malware that allowed outside parties to access payment card information from shoppers who shopped with the store between January 2 and July 17. Eddie Bauer has about 400 doors in total.

“The security of our customers’ information is a top priority for Eddie Bauer,” said Mike Egeck, chief executive officer of Eddie Bauer, in a statement. “We have been working closely with the FBI, cybersecurity experts, and payment card organizations, and want to assure our customers that we have fully identified and contained the incident and that no customers will be responsible for any fraudulent charges to their accounts. In addition, we’ve taken steps to strengthen the security of our point-of-sale systems to prevent this from happening in the future.”

Eddie Bauer says that consumers impacted by the breach can receive 12 months of complimentary risk services from Kroll.

Cyber theft among retail stores is not that uncommon this decade. In 2013, Target reported they were victims of a cyber hack which compromised customer information. Cybersecurity has become a major concern among retailers.
