Earlier in December, the New York Times published an investigative article discussing the work environments and wages for those who work for Fashion Nova, a Los Angeles-based fast-fashion brand catering to the Gen Z shopper.

The article, titled “Fashion Nova’s Secret: Underpaid Workers in Los Angeles Factories,” stated that the brand has been the subject of an investigation by the Department of Labor, stating that the factories supplying Fashion Nova owed 3.8 million USD in back wages to its workers. However, according to California Apparel News, a representative from the Department of Labor said there is not currently an active investigation on the popular brand.

Amid the backlash from the article, Fashion Nova claims wrongdoing, with a statement saying that it fully commits to its employees and has “always followed all California laws in compensating its workforce.” The brand also shared that its vendors each have signed an agreement with the company to pay their employees and subcontractors in “strict alignment with those same laws” and that any vendor found not in compliance is on probation for six months.
