The Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) has appointed new Trustees to its Board of Trustees. Gabrielle Fialkoff and Mona Aboelnaga Kanaan have officially commenced their terms on FIT 16-member board. Both are appointees the university's local sponsor, the Panel for Educational Policy of the New York City Department of Education.

Fialkoff is the founder of the GKF Group, an advisory firm offering dynamic strategies on social impact, partnerships, and public affairs. She will serve on FIT's Board of Trustees through June 30, 2023. Kanaan is a managing partner at investment firm K6 Investments LLC and will serve on the board through June 30, 2024. The two new trustees replace former trustees Jay H. Baker and Amsale Aberra, who served for 16 years and 10 years, respectively.

FIT has also named new directors to the FIT Foundation, which serves as the primary funding arm for the New York-based university. Gary Sheinbaum, chief executive officer of Tommy Hilfiger Americas, was elected as the foundation's chair, while Eric Fisch, Carmen Nestares, and Ivan Bart were all elected as new directors. Each will serve a three-year term.

"I am so honored to be the new chair of the FIT Foundation," Sheinbaum said in a statement. "FIT is such an iconic institution bringing together design, fashion, and technology. To be able to support the foundation's efforts to promote creativity, innovation, equality, and inclusivity in the fashion and creative industries is a privilege, and I look forward to being a part of all the incredible work they do."
